Thoughts on the reason for such a bad 2nd half of the season.

Christmas day we were sitting in 4th and in my option playing some decent stuff. All though I didn’t think we would finish 4th Europe via the league was really on.
Then we went to Chelsea away and played a weak team, Nolan returned and we lost and it seemed to have gone downhill from there. I mean that was one of the only times we could of gone to Chelsea and given them a real good game in years.
Then we had the cup which for some stupid reason I really thought we were going to do well in we fucked that up as well.
Is it really all down to the manager (In my option yes) or did we get found out a bit as well.

A bigger squad with more quality would allow us to rotate when players go off the boil, though I'm not sure that would work with Allardyce anyway, as he has a refusal to rest his favourites anyway and is solely to blame for Carroll's latest injury.

It's not just one thing of course, it's a combination of things...
A The manager hasn't helped with his selections, Nolan, Cole shouldn't have played anything like they have.
B Fixtures, we had a difficult run of games that came at the same time as our injury crisis and that knocked the confidence.
C The African Nations cup. For me Kouyate has been on the whole excellent and we missed him, I also think what went on with Song was plenty to do with his international career ending the way it did
D Injuries, plain and simple

So much of sport is in the head. The team had confidence and were playing ok and had had some good results. However, we had played a fair few teams lower in ranking than us.
We then had a pretty difficult run of games coinciding with the return of big Andy. We did revert to type and it didn't work out well. Confidence was lost rapidly and then it all fell apart.
I blame the return of Carroll along with a tough fixture list. A few injuries and of course Sam's desire to prove himself right, which he failed miserably to do.
We got found out quite a bit too.

Messed around with a decent system, the form stopped as soon as we played decent teams which was no surprise, some injuries, thin squad depth, african nations, selling attackers, not replacing them, reintroducing Nolan.
Just typical stuff every club gets, that's hard to avoid, apart from the Nolan thing.

I think it's entirely due to the players being fatigued and not getting a winter break. Plus too many of our squad are experiencing the EPL for the first time. Players like Cresswell, Valencia and Sakho. Even Jenkinson has not played a whole season for Arsenal so it is a big jump for them all to make.
Then there has been the unbelievable injuries to our strikers and CB's. Then the lack of player concentration caused by fatigue hasn't helped. I think our squad should have had more time in Dubai....

PS Sakho and Valencia have not been anywhere near the same players they were prior to their injuries in December... And then Big Andy got injured just as he found some form

That Chelsea game was the start. Resting players for the more winnable Arsenal game couple days after was not the right message and evidently lost that too.
The manager has now resorted back to his type. He was pushed into playing certain individuals and changing the way he usually sets up early in the season. They came in and done extremely well. I also feel there was an element of luck in all this, it was a good run, which kept going with new players hitting the ground running.
We have a good set of players, for me, they aren't being set up correctly and the manager is using certain players who shouldn't be starting. I'm sure with a new manager we could have really gone at teams and have a lot more points on the board.

What utter, utter shit. This season has been far better than last season and the previous 8
It was outstanding and fucking brilliant laugh until Christmas and yes it's not been great since but lets not get away from how good it was for the best part of 5 months.
